WE ARE COMMUNITY BUILDERS AND PLACEMAKERS
WHAT IS PLACEMAKING?
Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design, and management of public and private spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and well being.

MORE THAN YOUR TYPICAL EVENT COMPANY
We have pioneered a model that blends thoughtful community engagement with world-class facilities management to support Oakland produced events that attract visitors, increase opportunities for small business owners and support the culture in our town. Our management model facilitates the successful execution of events whether large or small, public or private, corporate or non-profit.
LOOKING FOR A VENUE IN DOWNTOWN OAKLAND?
THE TORTONA TENT
The Vau de Vire Society’s 12,000 sq ft Italian Big Top will rise in Downtown Oakland on Sept 27th to entertain with shows running to Nov 17th and will remain erect until Dec 17th.
After literally scouring the world high and low for exactly the right fit, serendipity led us to the Italian countryside where we discovered the beautiful and magical Tortona – a 12,000 square foot circus tent with ultimate charm and pizazz. Inside we are creating an intimate and exciting depiction of a happening saloon & DanceHall set in Oakland circa 1890. The venue is adorned with multiple stages, a 40’ ceiling showcasing an array of aerial feats, an art gallery of local artisans, a hotel for the township and an expansive bar perfectly designed for illicit escapades
Art Deco in the Heart of Oakland
Built in 1926, the 7,500-square-foot California Ballroom showcases a majestic high gold leaf ceiling, as well as a large stage with curtains and spotlights and a sizable dance floor. An invitation to this impressive Art Deco landmark — just a few blocks from picturesque Lake Merritt — is an occasion to look forward to.
Building strong relationships in the community is our main goal.
Designed with versatility in mind, 1544 Events can accommodate events ranging from corporate meetings and conferences, trade shows, product launches, auctions, screenings, performances to weddings, intimate receptions, private parties and more
